Here are some lesson plans that I have developed and used in my own classroom. You are free to print and copy these off for your own classroom.

Problem Solving Activity: Students need to be encouraged to value, communicate and reason math. This activity allows them to create and write a word problem at their own ability level, pick out two of the 20 strategies to solve it, then write it  in sequence how they arrived at their answer to become mathematically empowered.

"Amelia's Fabulous Flight" teaches geography, history, direction and problem solving. Students map out her flight plan, learn the 7 continents and learn a little bit about aviation history. Then they solve word problems dealing with miles per hour using a mileage strip.

"Exploring Numbers In Our World of Science" is a book written to interrelate our math world to our science world. It shows how the physical world relates to numbers. The math activity that accompanies this story can be fun after learning the "Han-5" system, because children will be able to answer all the problems within seconds. It is a lot of fun learning more about our math and science world through literature.
